911 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet Commemorative Edition Rebuild

The Porsche 911 3.2 Commemorative Edition remains one of the rarest and most distinctive iterations of the iconic G-Series Carrera. Produced in extremely limited numbers with just 50 examples being supplied to the UK market, 30 Coupes, 10 Targas and only 10 Cabriolets. Today, with no definitive record of how many remain on the road, these cars occupy an especially rare position within the air-cooled Porsche world.

Every UK example was specified identically from factory, finished in Diamond Blue Metallic paint with colour-coded Fuchs wheels and complemented by a Silver Blue leather interior featuring Ferry Porsche’s signature embossed into the headrests. Subtle, elegant and unmistakable, the Commemorative Edition captures everything enthusiasts value about the final evolution of the 3.2 Carrera.

This particular cabriolet belongs to Chris Boys, Manager of our air-cooled department. Anyone familiar with Chris and his attention to detail will understand that this was never going to be a superficial refurbishment. The task was to return the car to the standard it deserved, with no compromises along the way.

The restoration process was extensive. The body was stripped down to allow for detailed inspection and corrective bodywork repairs (although little was required as under the paint it was a very clean example), before receiving a full bare-metal respray in its original Diamond Blue Metallic finish. The engine was completely rebuilt, ensuring the driving experience matched the visual condition of the car, while further work included the installation of a new windscreen, a replacement cabriolet roof, new Bilstein suspension fitted and rebushed as well as a brand new fuel tank alongside numerous additional repairs and refinements throughout, totalling 500 hours of work.

The end result is exactly what you would expect from a no compromise restoration, a beautifully presented and mechanically exceptional 911 3.2 Cabriolet Commemorative Edition, restored with the care, precision and attention to originality these increasingly rare cars deserve.
