This 1989 3.2 Carrera initially came into us for an appraisal, with a view to undertake a suspension refresh and lowering of ride height. As the inspection progressed and exploratory removal of parts commenced, it soon became obvious that the work was going to be far more extensive than any of us imagined.
The body was at a point where after 29 years of being enjoyed, she really required a full body restoration in order to ensure the car will be here in another 29 years. As the strip-down progressed, further corrosion was uncovered. Our team and the owner had many phone conversations, emails and meetings at our unit in Hertfordshire to determine the best course of action and after much soul searching, the owner decided to undertake a total nut and bolt rebuild to leave no single item of the car untouched.
The level of restoration gave the owner the opportunity to build his perfect incarnation of an air-cooled 911. The car was built with the 911 Carrera 3.2 Clubsport Prototype as the main inspiration. Porsche built this car as the prototype for a run of 340 3.2 Clubsports and was completed in 1984.
The 3.2 Carrera built here has many special features from 3D printed mirror bases to match that of the prototype, lightweight body panels, a lightweight free revving engine rebuild, Lightweight interior and bespoke dials to name but a few. The finished build is such a sweet example of ‘less is more’ and is already a firm favourite amongst the team here at RPM Technik.
