968 Clubsport

The Porsche 968 CS was the lightweight, track-focused variant of the 968, shedding approximately 50kg compared to the standard model. Featuring bucket seats from the 964 RS, a stripped-out interior, and the removal of various electrical components such as A/C, electric windows, and mirrors, it was designed for pure driving engagement. Unlike many special editions, the 968 CS was not built in limited numbers, with over 1,500 produced.

This particular example is a significant piece of UK automotive history—an original press car that played a crucial role in introducing the model to enthusiasts and journalists alike. Our task was to bring this iconic car back to its former glory while ensuring it remains true to its factory specification.

The Project:

Bodywork & Paint
The restoration process began with a complete engine-out, bare-metal repaint in the factory-original Maritime Blue. This meticulous process ensured that every inch of the body was flawlessly prepared and repainted to Porsche’s exacting standards.

Mechanical Overhaul
The mechanical refresh covered every critical aspect of the vehicle’s performance:

• Full suspension and brake component overhaul
• Installation of KW V3 suspension for improved handling while maintaining drivability
• New fuel and brake lines fitted as required
• Complete ABS system overhaul

Engine & Drivetrain
To ensure reliability and optimal performance, the engine underwent a thorough overhaul, including:

• Replacement of belts and rollers
• New cam chain installed

Interior & Final Details
The factory-original bucket seats were carefully removed to preserve their condition, and 968 LWT Sport seats were installed to maintain the lightweight ethos of the model. The finishing touches included restoring the car to its factory specification with original delivery colour wheels and period-correct graphics.

The Result
The completed restoration has returned this historically significant Porsche 968 CS to its original press-car glory. With its refreshed paintwork, mechanical overhaul, and period-correct details, this lightweight icon is once again a showcase of Porsche’s driver-focused engineering.
