What are the differences between a Porsche 992.1 and a 992.2?
The Porsche 992 model was launched at the tail end of 2018 with most customer deliveries starting from 2019 onwards, so we tend to see the earliest cars are on a 2019/19 reg plate.
The 992 facelift, referred to as the 992.2 was confirmed in May 2024 with most cars starting to come through to clients at the end of the year on a 2024/74 reg plate.

Engines
All of the 992 Carrera models run with the 3.0 twin turbo flat six, that originated in the 991.2 GTS models. The Carrera models were rated at 380bhp whilst the Carrera S produced 444 bhp. The Carrera T which had a general ethos of lightweight materials and a more focused driving feel kept the 380bhp engine from the Carrera.
All the 992.1 GTS variants ran the same 3.0 albeit with larger Turbos allowing a power output of 473bhp. The ‘Turbo’ or ‘Turbo S’ model had a totally different engine with a 3.7l engine that produced 572bhp in the Turbo and 641bhp in the Turbo S.
Other newly introduced models like the Dakar ran with 3.0 473bhp the same as the GTS models, while the 992 Sport Classic runs with the 3.7 from the 992 Turbo slightly de-tuned putting out 542bhp. The GT3 (both Touring and ‘Winged’) power went to 510bhp with the RS 525bhp
With the 992.2 models the Carrera models retained the same engine but with a small power hike to 389bhp for the Carrera and 479bhp for the Carrera S. One of the biggest changes in the lineup is the GTS models which have swapped to a single Turbo but running a hybrid powertrain putting out 539bhp.
The Turbo and Turbo S models are yet to be launched at time of writing but expect roughly 600bhp for the Turbo and nudging 700bhp for the Turbo S. The GT3 power in the 992.2 is unchanged at 510bhp & currently there has been no further update on what the 992.2 GT3RS will be.
