Every Porsche enthusiast knows that spec is everything. You can have the same model, same engine, same options, but tweak the spec, and suddenly it’s a completely different car. A quick dive into the configurator is all it takes to lose an hour (or three). Wheels, deviated stitching, interior and exterior trims… it’s endless. But let’s be honest the single most important decision? It’s got to be the paint colour. Do you go metallic? Flat? Safe? Bold? Something that whispers… or something that shouts across a car park?

Enter: Porsche Paint to Sample (PTS)

This is where things get really interesting. Porsche Paint to Sample (PTS) unlocks an almost limitless palette of colours, far beyond the standard configurator options. We’re talking everything from iconic heritage shades to modern, head-turning finishes.

Think:

  • Ruby Star – loud, unapologetic, and instantly recognisable
  • Signal Orange – bright, eye-catching and brilliantly shows the cars bodylines
  • Ashley Green – subtle, classy, and very “if you know, you know”

And hundreds more in between.

While many manufacturers shy away from this level of customisation (because, frankly, it’s a logistical nightmare), Porsche leans into it. Because, well… they’re Porsche!

Rare for a Reason

PTS cars are not common, far from it. Around 1–3% of total Porsche production and roughly 5–15% of GT models. That’s a tiny slice of an already exclusive pie, and that rarity matters. A lot.

When a PTS car hits the market, especially in the right colour, it doesn’t hang around. Buyers who’ve been waiting sometimes for years for that exact shade will move quickly. Blink, and it’s gone.

Value Beyond the Paint

PTS isn’t just about looking good (although, let’s face it, that’s a big part of it).

It’s about:

  • Individuality – your Porsche, your way
  • Exclusivity – you’re extremely unlikely to see another identical car
  • Desirability – strong demand in the secondary market

Because of this, PTS cars often command a premium price and more importantly, they tend to hold attention and value exceptionally better than their non-PTS counterparts.

The “In the Know” Factor

Here’s where it gets interesting, not every dealership or specialist fully appreciates a PTS car. To some, it’s just “a green Porsche” or “a pink one.” But to those who know? It’s everything. At RPM Technik, we see it differently. We understand that that “green” might be a rare historical shade, that “pink” might be one of the most sought-after Porsche colours ever, that the right PTS spec can transform a car entirely. It’s the difference between a very nice car… and a truly special one.

We are fortunate enough to see many of these beautiful PTS Porsches pass through our doors, whether it be in for a service/ upgrade or we are retailing the car, they always turn the heads of both staff and clients.

The Next Level: Sonderwunsch

If PTS is bespoke, Sonderwunsch is something next-level. This is Porsche’s ultra-exclusive customisation programme, where almost anything is possible (within reason and budget). But we’ll get into that another day…

Final Thoughts

Choosing a Porsche colour isn’t just ticking a box, it’s defining the personality of the car, and if you really want something that stands out, something that turns heads, starts conversations, and maybe even causes arguments in social media comments sections, PTS is where the magic begins!
