GT CUP UPDATE: 7-8TH JUNE
7th and 8th June 2014 saw the third race weekend of the GT Cup series at Silverstone International circuit. As per the format for most of the year the weekend consisted of 3 races over the two days, with a qualifying session for each race.
The first race of the weekend saw the 997 GT3 qualify in 19th place which was disappointing, however the race more than made up for this with the car climbing up to 10th overall and finishing 3rd in class, a terrific result given a out of sorts qualifying session.
The qualifying session for race two concluded in a much better fashion with the car lining up on the 5th row of the grid in 10th overall, this was a position that we would hold through out the 23 laps and again come home in a very creditable 10th overall and 3rd in the GTB class.
The final race started well with a qualifying position on row 5, however a altercation with a Ferrari resulted in a broken radiator and bent track rod forcing an early retirement to what promised to be a exciting race. Not a spectacular end to the weekend but two strong race performances and qualifying speed building, things are still looking good.
With 9 rounds out of 20 now completed Team RPM Technik/ Need for Speed are placed 3rd in the GTB class out of 16 with 174 points. A long way to go just yet but with hopefully a few class wins and some continued podium consistency it could be a fantastic rookie season!
The next round is at Snetterton on the 19th and 20th of July if you fancy watching some really close and competitive GT racing.
