Rounds 13, 14 and 15 of the Bute Motorsport GT Cup were held at Silverstone on the 16th and 17th of August. The racing took part on the GT circuit and with testing carried out during the week an issue with the gearbox created a few late nights in order to get the car prepared for the Saturday morning.

As ever perseverance and persistence paid off and the car was ready to rock at 9.00am Saturday morning. Bad luck seemed to be the order of the meeting for the GT3, with a coolant issue just as first practice started, this created another job for the technicians to solve and turnaround for qualifying. Qualifying began well but a shunt from another car bent the GT3’s exhausts causing a loss of power and again a return to the garages for this to *be replaced. Annoyingly the lack of a qualifying time meant we started at the back of the grid for race one, all to play for then..

The first race started exceptionally well with 10 places being made up on the first two laps! Lady luck hit yet again with a puncture on the front left causing an unscheduled pitstop and tyre change, but a well battled race by Nigel Armstrong resulted in a 5th in class which was satisfying given how the race had begun. How much more bad luck could we get?

Race two looked like it could be wet but the clouds held back and Nigel Armstrong again fought to a 3rd in GTB class and a solid 9th overall, something for us all to build on…

The last race of the weekend was held on Sunday. Gary Marsh had a great start on lap one, picking up 3 or 4 places in as many corners. However our bad luck was to strike again with a car spinning a few cars ahead of Gary and then completing its spin right in front of him, with nowhere to go Gary did exceptionally well to avoid a head on accident. The result was a damaged front right corner, and the end of a tough weekend for the team.

The next round is at Donnington Park on the 20th September, fingers crossed for an easier weekend!
